Third Annual Homeschool Baseball World Series...COMING this Memorial Day weekend!

Take me out to the ballgame, take me out to the crowd! Ten homeschool baseball teams from six different states will be doing just that this coming Memorial Day weekend 2002. Homeschool baseball teams from Houston and Dallas, TX will be co-hosting the Third Annual Homeschool Baseball World Series in the vibrant city of San Antonio, TX in just two weeks! The following teams will be attending the World Series: Atlanta, GA Barons, Atlanta (South), GA Knights, Augusta, GA Eagles, Conroe, TX Mustangs, Dallas, TX Angels, Houston, TX Eagles, Huntsville, AL Falcons, Nashville, TN Monarchs, Oklahoma City, OK Broncos, and the West Florida Mudcats. This event is a production of the Homeschool World Series Association that was formed in May 2000 at the inaugural Homeschool Baseball World Series at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN.

Six teams competed in the First Annual Homeschool World Series. Our very own Houston Eagles brought home the Championship Silver Cup in the year 2000, followed by their Georgia rival, the Atlanta Barons, who took second place in Nashville.

In May 2001, the World Series was hosted in Atlanta, GA where the Barons and the Eagles met once again in the Championship game, only this time resulting in a role reversal between the Atlanta Barons and the Houston Eagles. The Atlanta Barons are the reigning World Series Champions. Eight teams attended the Second Annual Homeschool Baseball World Series with team representation from Alabama, Atlanta, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.

This year, the ten competing teams will each play their four guaranteed pool-play games on Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24. Eight teams will advance to either the Consolation bracket or the Championship bracket playoffs games that will occur on Saturday morning, May 25. On Saturday evening, over 300 guests will experience a real "taste of Texas" as they enjoy a plated Mexican Fiesta dinner, listen to a live Christian and homeschool band, and get introduced to each of the competing teams at the Texas Welcome Banquet complete with "Truly Texas" decorations. An All-Tournament Praise & Worship service will be held on Sunday morning from 9:00-11:00 AM. Final placements will be determined on Sunday afternoon in the following games at the University of Texas San Antonio field: 1) Consolation Game (2:00 PM), 2) Third Place Game (5:00 PM), and 3) Championship Game (8:00 PM).

The thankfulness and gratitude of the Co-hosting teams is extended to the Radisson Hotel at Downtown Market Square for their service to the homeschool community as the 2002 Hotel Sponsor. The Via Metropolitan Transport System and the San Antonio Visitor Information Center deserve many thanks for their donation of streetcar system, downtown San Antonio, and field maps. Thank you to the Athletic Directors of UTSA, Cornerstone Christian School, Alamo Heights, and Olmos Basse Bain for the use of their fields and batting cages for World Series games and practice. Further thanks goes out to the World Series GOLD sponsors and Homeschool Christian Youth Association Baseball Alumni Sponsors who have helped make the World Series possible. A special thanks to The County Line Barbecue, Fuddrucker's, Hard Rock Cafe, and Starbuck's for their gift certificate donations. Last, but not least, our sincere gratitude and thanks is extended to the College Station, TX sponsors: 1) CC Creations for the incredible job that they did on our All-Tournament T-shirts, World Series baseball caps, Championship T-shirts, and Participation Awards (monogrammed mini bats), 2) Copy Corner for the quality printing job that they completed for the baseball program, and 3) Robert Earle at Awards Etc. for his time and talent in designing the World Series awards.

Excitement is building as the Third Annual Homeschool Baseball World Series draws near. Let's root, root, root for the home team at the old ballgame!
