Ex-HWSA Player Signs Minor League Contract with Philadelphia Phillies Class A Affiliate, Williamsport Crosscutters

Louisiana Tech University graduate shortstop Dennis Winn recently signed with the Philadelphia Phillies affiliate and Class A organization, Williamsport, PA Crosscutters. Details of the contract are not available.

Winn played high school baseball for the Middle Tennessee Monarchs, a homeschool baseball team that competes for the Homeschool World Series Association (HWSA). During Winn's senior season, the Monarchs placed sixth at the 2002 HWSA World Series in San Antonio, Texas.

Winn's college senior season, he batted .351 with 8 HRs and 26 RBIs for a team that went 14-10 in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Winn, a transfer from Western Kentucky, also received First Team WAC All-Conference this past spring.

Dennis Winn, along with his younger brother, Kevin, played high school ball for Coach Jeff Hartline in Nashville, Tennessee.

Update (June 2008):  Dennis is currently playing for the Class A minor league club, Lakewood Blueclaws, of the South Atlantic League (Sally). Lakewood is a part of the Philadelphia Phillies organization. The 6'2" starting second baseman is currently hitting .291 with 2 home runs and 14 RBIs.

HWSA exists to create tournaments and a National Homeschool World Series for homeschool baseball teams across the continental United States.
